- Avid Code Disc BrakeWhen your biggest competition is the terrain ahead, CODEä¢ gives you the control and confidence to get there faster TaperBoreä¢ technology, sealed bearings and a powerful four-piston caliper provide the performance you need whether youäó»re flying downhill or picking your way through razor-edged rock gardens. At a mere 410 grams, CODE is lighter than most cross-country brakes on the market, proving that strength doesnäó»t have to weigh you down Specifications: Weight: 410 grams (160mm rotor; front post mount) Lever Material: Black Aluminum Lever, 3-cartridge Bearing lever pivot Caliper Design: 4-Piston, Dual-Diameter, Forged 2-piece Finish: Ano Grey, Lever: Black Pad: Organic, Top Loading Fluid: DOT 5.1 Mount: Ambidextrous Adjustment: Contact Point Adjustment, Tool-Free Reach Adjustment, Adjustable Banjo, Tri-Align Caliper Positioning Special Features: TaperBore Technology, Reversible break-away lever, Split Clamp, MatchMaker CompatibleFeatures: Bend Zone:We know that crashes happen, and thatäó»s why we created Bend Zone. During a powerful hitäóîone that would break a normal leveräóîBend Zone allows the lever to flex, saving the lever body from massive carnage. Not only will you be able to ride out of the woods without resorting to Flintstone-style braking, you wonäó»t even have to get a new lever body. Contact Point Adjustmentä¢:Weäó»re proud to be the company that invented this feature before people even knew how much they needed it. Contact Point Adjustment allows you customize the point in the leveräó»s throw where the brake actually engages. That helps you do two simpleäóñbut importantäóñthings: 1. You get to pick the position youäó»d like your fingers to be in when your brakes grip. That means you can perfectly match your fingersäó» comfort with the brakeäó»s poweräóîwithout having to move the pads. 2. Balancing both brake levers so they make contact at the same point has never been easier. Contact Point Adjustment is not a reach adjuster (although all of our levers have that, too). Whether you prefer the modulation of a longer throw, the instantaneous power of a short throw, or any of the zillion options in-between, this feature will help you dial in the perfect ride. Deep Stroke Modulationä¢:æThereäó»s a fine line between braking hard and braking so hard that you lose traction. Deep Stroke Modulation allows riders to perfectly navigate that line and control even the most powerful brakes with finesse. DOT 5.1:æHeat is an enemy of any brake system, so advancements in heat management, mean advancements in your ride. You see, we found that in our systems DOT 5.1 takes almost 3 times longer to boil than DOT 4, thus allowing flawless fade-free performance in even more extreme conditions. Intergrated Reservoir:æWith TaperBore Technologyä¢ weäó»ve integrated the reservoir and master cylinder on our hydraulic disc-brake levers to create a super-sleek (and even lighter) lever design. Power Reserve Geometry:æAt the end of the day, a brake lever simply multiples the force your hand generates (just like the nut cracker). Avidäó»s Power Reserve Geometryä¢represents a way of thinking about the physics of leverage and your handäó»s comfort. This philosophy is fundamentally different than others in the business of brakes. Due to pivot placement, physics dictates that with other brake levers your fingers tend to slip off the ends as you pull. Avid is different. We designed our levers with the pivot closer to the handlebar, in fact, closer than anyone else in the industry. The resulting lever movement has less inward travel, an arc thatäó»s closer to your fingersäó» natural motion and delivers more force to the brake. The cool part is, every Avid lever has it. TaperBore Technologyä¢:The term äóìTaperBoreäó refers to a unique patent-pending closure system in our Elixir and Code levers. It saves weight, looks super-sleek, improves lever feedback and most importantlyäóñgives you more power and control. Top-loading Pads:æWhen the only thing between you and the trail is bike maintenance, every second matters. With our top-loading pads, new disc-brake pads can be installed without taking off the wheel, working under the caliper or doing any upside-down pad juggling, so youäó»ll be ready to ride much quicker. Tri-Alignä¢ Caliper Positioning Systemä¢:æAnother original Avid technology making your life betteräóîthereäó»s never been an easier brake to install and adjust. With Avidäó»s Tri-Alignä¢Caliper Positioning Systemä¢, aligning the caliper to the rotor literally takes seconds. Just loosen the CPSä¢ bolts a little, and then squeeze the brake lever while re-tightening the bolts. Perfect caliper alignmentäóîjust like that BuyæAvid Componentsæfrom Chain Reaction Cycles, the Worldäó»s Largest Online Bike Store.

immense stopping power by Mandolorious, 16 November 2014, 2 out of 4 people found this review helpful seriously good set of brakes. by far the best I’ve ever come across to date with superb craftsmanship and a brilliant finish. with adjustment that’s sure to please even the fussiest of people, I found these to be a great all-rounder brake set. effortless braking power without sacrificing the downs of extra added weight. I would recommend these to anyone who wants a new set of hydraulic brakes. they’re definitely not limited to the downhill market as I will be putting a set on my BMX bike for sure and being they aren’t that heavy they would even suit cross country riders alike. Pros: quality finish well designed and engineered plenty of adjustments available Cons: they are a bit pricy
