Excellent craftsmanship by BenG90, 8 August 2017, 13 out of 13 people found this review helpful Very well made product, I didnt notice much difference.. just runs a lot smoother. Most people say they do, I just think it’s the same, just looks better than a double speed chain set, but does run a lot smoother than a double chain set. Removing the gears too makes the bike look a lot cleaner in my opinion. Couldn’t fault this product at all! Would definitely recommend this to anyone! Pros: very well made and a good price Cons: none at all!
Excellent Design and Performance! by JXV158, 7 May 2017, 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful Absoluteblack (AB) makes a version of this ring for CRC and a ‘Premium’ version you order directly off their website. The premium version, with express shipping from AB, is about $10-$15 USD more.åÊ I own both in 32T and notice little or no difference although the premium version IS a work of art!åÊ The CRC version has slightly simplified milling and is a few grams heavier (the premium version weighs out at 48g and the CRC version at 51g). Both versions are very light and thin but extremely strong.åÊ Fit and finish is top notch, arguably the best out there (I have had rings from Wolftooth, Race Face and One Up). Packaging and instructions are basic but assembly is pretty straightforward and AB does have a video on their website and YouTube.åÊ The ring has a slight offset built in and fit perfectly with the stock bolts but it may depend on which crank you use (obviously XT 1×11 for this review). The AB oval ring runs smooth and is very quiet, it sheds mud extremely well (the premium version might be a bit better here?), has held up well to abuse and shows minimal wear after a couple of months (about 40-50 hours use). Does this ring (or any oval ring, for that matter) really make a difference?åÊ Personally,åÊ I found it strange at firståÊand my cadence was a bit messed up.åÊ However, it only took a couple of rides to adjust and I don’t really notice it now.åÊ It does seem to perform better, especially on climbs; my pedal stroke seems ‘smoother’ and power delivery is more consistent, making it easier to maintain traction and momentum up the climbs.åÊ If you do a fair amount of climbing, I really think you owe to yourself to give it a shot!åÊ A great product! Pros: well designed/machined strong lightweight smooth/quiet sheds mud well makes climbing ‘easier’ Cons: expensive takes getting used to
