Comfort Saddle and Cut Out Saddle compared by MichalZ, 12 July 2016, 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Having experienced some numbness in the lower regions with conventional saddles, I decided to get cut-out saddles for my bikes. Saddles, grips, and pedals are the parts that I consider basically disposable, so I would not select anything which costs more than a few tens of dollars for each. I bought both the Brand-X Cut Out saddle and Brand-X Comfort saddle. I will compare the two to help others make a decision between them. The Cut Out saddle went on my summer bike, the Comfort saddle went on my winter bike. Both saddles are good quality, manufactured by the reputable Velo. Using these seats for the better part of a year now, I have not had any further issues with numbness. The Cut Out saddle is pretty slim and hard, but not uncomfortably so. The skin is not permeable. It does have a seam along the inside of the cut-out which can absorb water, but this has only been an issue once temperatures went freezing (had the saddle freeze rock solid towards the end of autumn). Something to consider if you also store your bike outside in these conditions. The “beak” at the front is a bit longer than it needs to be. Occasionally I’ve had it hook the back of my pants when mounting. The comfort saddle has significantly more cushion. Chose it for the winter bike since I am mounting/dismounting more often on it. The skin is also not permeable, but seems a bit more delicate than that on the Cut Out saddle. Also, the skin seems to lose some elasticity when temperatures go well below freezing and leaves a bit of a butt imprint after a ride – cosmetic issue only. No seams design, had no issues with water being absorbed. Overall, both saddles are of good quality and offer better anatomical comfort to conventional saddles. Either is a recommended buy.
Comfy and cheap, relieves pressure point by roadrider123, 20 May 2017, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Bought this Brand X comfort saddle and a selle SMP TRK to relieve pressure on perineum, as both have cut out channels. The Brand X was instantly comfortable and relieved pressure. The covering material doesn’t look particularly hard wearing so not sure how long it will last, but given the low price and high comfort level I would highly recommend it. The selle is more comfy than my old saddle but not as comfy as the Brand X. Maybe with more time tweaking the angle and position it might improve, as it seems quite sensitive to setting up correctly. The selle looks like a harder wearing material than the brand X, but costs more than twice the price.
