- GU Roctane Energy Gel Roctane takes the athletes’ top choice for an energy gel, GU, amplifies the original recipe and then adds new ingredients to boost performance in sustained, high-intensity efforts. They start with original GU’s superior mix of complex and simple carbohydrates that provide quick and sustained energy, electrolytes for replenishment and caffeine to tap more power and diminish pain æ From there we increase the amount of histidine, an essential amino acid, to act as a buffer and slow the energy-sapping lactic acid build-up in muscles æ They mix in higher levels of citrates (potassium citrate, sodium citrate, and citric acid) to help speed the conversion of carbohydrates into energy molecules and, like histidine, help mitigate acid build-up æ They also add more of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) leucine, valine and isoleucine to serve as another fuel source, aid in recovery and help maintain mental focus and reduce fatigue by limiting the central nervous system’s production of serotonin æ Finally, they add a new ingredient, the amino acid complex Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (OKG) which limits the body’s tendency to break down muscle protein tissue during extremely hard training and racing days. OKG keeps you going longer and promotes a speedier recovery. Are you a Roctane Athlete? If your idea of training or racing is giving it your all in a multi-hour adventure or you’re competing in multiple racing heats during a day, then Roctane is for you. For all other training and racing, the original GU energy gel will keep you fueled like a champ. Usage: Roctane Ultra Endurance Energy Gel packs 100 calories into every packet. It’s an ideal serving size to suck down 15 minutes before training or racing in order to top off your electrolyte and glucose stores, followed by one every 30-45 minutes along the way, washed down with a few sips of fluid. For optimum results, always drink at least 24-30 ounces of fluid per hour during training and racing. Exact Roctane intake depends on the intensity of your pursuit and your body weight and fitness level. The fitter you are and the more efficient your metabolism, the more Roctane you can eat each hour, up to approximately 340 calories every 60 minutes. Combine Roctane with original GU Energy Gel, GU Electrolyte Brew and GU Recovery Brew for the ultimate in sports hydration, fueling and recovery. Take one gel 15 minutes before training or competition and then one gel every 30-45 minutes during exercise. Drink Electrolyte Brew throughout your training or racing, and drink Recovery Brew within 30 minutes after you’ve stopped. Top reviews:
Expensive, but it is rocket fuel by Anonymous, 31 October 2012, 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful I’ve tried pretty much every gel out there. I really like these ones (Blueberry & Pomegranate flavour) as they’re not too sickly sweet, and they have an almost grainy texture which makes them nice to eat. They certainly do the job as well … I don’t know if it’s all the amino acids or just the high caffeine level, but they certainly hit the spot.
Great Addition. by OzzyWozza, 29 January 2016, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful I added this to my long ride (100+km) nutrition stack based on the reviews I found through out the net. Can definitely feel the difference in the latter stages of the rides especially so when the hills are in those latter stages. Pros: does not taste too sweet. does not make the gut rumble. Cons: sharp edged pack gets caught in jersey pockets.
