Using it for 4 years by Daryal, 25 April 2016, 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful I bought the lock about 4 years ago and am using it since then all year round. Not every day, though, but in all weather conditions: snow, rain. Have been leaving my commuter female urban bike for 9-10 hours locked with the KriptoLok near my art school. As for my XC bike, I used to lock it with the KriptoLok combined with 180 cm cable keeping both wheels and a frame together. But not for more than 4-5 hours. Now the lock is still working OK. When we ride together with my daughter I use another lock for the 2nd bike – it’s a Masterlock Integrated Combination Chain Lock. Both are pretty heavy but I can’t imagine myself going with something light and thin Pros: secure smooth locking strong built unique key with a unique # to order a new if lost Cons: heavy sometimes shorter than needed
Great value lock by DeeDubYoo, 19 February 2017, 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful I’ve owned a Kryptonite New York lock for years that I use on my more expensive bike, but when I started accumulating more cheaper bikes, it didn’t make sense to buy another New York when the bikes themselves were only worth a couple to few hundred dollars. I ended up getting a KryptoLok Series 2 lock since it fit the bill: much cheaper while still providing a decent amount of security. I liked it so much I always buy another when ever I add a new (cheap) bike to the stable and have recommended them to others too. The standard length seems to be a good “all purpose” length for most uses. My most recent and often used one is for my daily winter commuter so I know it holds up well in wet and cold conditions. It also comes with a mount you can attach to your bike frame so you have somewhere to attach your lock to while you ride. The release mechanism on the mount is very tight though, which I suppose isn’t a terrible thing; at least you won’t have to worry about your lock falling off while you are riding it. The mount itself uses nylon and rubber straps so you can pretty much put it anywhere on the bike. I saw someone mount theirs on their chainstay which I thought was pretty clever. One comment about my most recent KryptoLok: getting the key in and out of the locking mechanism seems to require a bit of trial and error some times, which can be pretty annoying especially if I’m in a rush. However I don’t think this is indicative of all KryptoLoks, just my particular sample. I have another KryptoLok as does my cousin and those ones don’t have the same issue. I’ll have to contact Kryptonite about that (who have excellent customer service, BTW). Pros: comes with mount to attach to bike good value sturdy secure Cons: the mount release is too tight sometimes the dustcover rattles on bumpy rides
