Early days and no expert but experience good so far by Adiefatlady, 15 May 2017, 9 out of 15 people found this review helpful Only used this half a dozen times and so far its behaving as expected. Connectivity seems fine, links via blue tooth to basic tacx apps so calibration, updating and basic stats can be seen. (Easy start guide didnt mention anything about calibrating via app, which is important for power calibration i believe) So far tried trainerroad and zwift which work well on pca with windows 10. trainerroad seems to work ok on apple ipad air 2 via blue tooth too but cant do heart rate so i use laptop with ant+ adapter which costs a tenner or so. To use apple for ant+ you have to get wahoo adapter AND then a old ipad connector to lightning bolt converter which is a quite a few quid. Set up was mostly fine. I set up for 11 speed and i needed to add the 1 cm wide axle spacer for this to fit correctly but didnt need any shims for the free hub. The instructions are not crystal but its mostly obvious if you bike doesnt fit in correctly or cassette is loose. The bike is securely held when in situ now. Im sure i remember this saying it didn’t need a front wheel block but i think you do. The bike feels like its going down a very slight gradient and its uncomfortable to sit upright. The trainer is obviously heavy with no handle so not easiest to move. Its solid and doesn’t move. There is no motor assist so as soon as you stop pedalling, zwift etc think you have stopped your workout which is a bit annoying, but in terms of coasting down hills via motor assist i dont really miss it CRC price is good and competitive and when combined with 10% off via british cycle membership is a good deal. One bad mark against CRC is poor delivery service. This is one heavy item. I received no texts or emails from parcel force to say this is coming. Parcel force then drop stuff off at your “local” post office and then you have to go get it. For me they didnt use the local larger post office 5 mins walk away but a tiny concession one a mile away. You can get tracking information on your order IF you know its there, login to your account and get the code and look it up yourself. Compared to wiggle delivery its definitely behind the curve in this day and age. 1 year warranty I think too. Would be good if 2 like kicker on wiggle. Im assuming not transferable either. Pros: price functionality build (so far) connectivity Cons: no handle (known) cant collapse (known) probably will need wheel block
Fantastic smart trainer for those without elite rider ambitions by CoopsCC, 4 August 2017, 5 out of 8 people found this review helpful I’ve been using this for two weeks now, and I am blown away by the ERG mode and training potential it offers. I was previously using rollers and guesstimating efforts with RPE and heart rate, and invariably found that I was flattening myself to try and meet training goals within the duration, or potentially underworking if my feel was off. The power reading on this device isn’t perfect, but it definitely allows you to use this incredible metric to aid your training. Of course, if you want to be an elite rider you probably need its big brother or one of the other top trainers because this is definitely doing some averaging on cadence and power. But for me, this is (currently) ideal as it can give me enough of an idea to get the correct training stimulus without fuss and the ERG mode ensures quality of training. Beautiful! One downside pointed out by DC Rainmaker and confirmed by me is that some bike frames may not fit, due to the way the legs attach, the chain will make contact in some gears. Use different gears? Yea! Pros: great value smart trainer training with power btle and ant+ direct drive Cons: may not fit all bike frames sometimes need to shift to help the smarts
